The Old Man Gloom/Converge tour of Japan/Australia/New Zealand is now complete. Thanks to all this involved for making it a highly enjoyable set of experiences. When Gloom reached Japan we were handed the finished copies of the Old Man Gloom re-issues, produced to coincide with the tour (and incidentally the 10th anniversary of Daymare Recordings). These CDs are the definitive versions of the albums, replete with revamped artwork, re-mastered audio courtesy of James Plotkin, and some bonus live material (also mixed and mastered by Plotkin). For anybody new to the work of Old Man Gloom (or those simply looking to update their collections), the ultimate versions herein described and pictured can be obtained directly from Daymare by visiting the Inoxia webstore here. Big thanks to Tadashi Hamada for making this project possible. Though available only in the CD format currently, OMG is hoping to reissue these updated versions of the albums on vinyl in the course of the coming year. Stayed tuned for more info on that endeavor.
Speaking of Daymare, they have also recently issued the CD version of the JK Flesh/Prurient split album. The compact disc edition features the original content plus remix tracks by House of Low Culture and JK Flesh not available on the LP version. That item is also for sale direct from Daymare here. As of today there are also 3 remaining copies of the LP test press + cassette version of this release at the HHR store here.
Speaking of Old man Gloom, congrats to fellow Gloomer Nate Newton and his wife Liz Newton on the birth of their daughter Dorothy! Very happy and exciting news!

Was about to buy them all, then I noticed they don't come in actual cases. I can't be the only one who is tired of these cardboard sleeves, the cds always come scratched, and it's not a safe place to store them either. Oh well

ReplyDeleteAs for you Muffin, the CDs are housed in protective paper sleeves inside the cardboard jackets, so unless you're taking them out and rubbing sandpaper on them I'm pretty sure they'll remain unscathed...

Loving the Japanese digipaks by the way, the closest CDs are ever going to get to vinyl in terms of packaging. No more cracked jewel cases!!
good riddance to jewel cases, cardboard sleeves/gatefolds are so much more aesthetically pleasing.

ReplyDeleteRegarding paper cases, at first I too was skeptical of them but, after Pearl Jam's Vitology, I totally changed my opinion. They're so much better as well as more aesthetically pleasing.

ReplyDeleteyou know the economy is bad bad to buy a second version of something I already have (Italy, my country is slowing collapsing) but I'm really curious about the work done by mr Plotkin as I really like his work and I really like OMG... so, even if I have all the OMG releases I’’d like to listen these new releases on inoxia records …
can you post a song of one of the first lps redone on inoxia to listen the difference from the original one?

The Japanese reissues are beautifully packaged with beautiful sound. However, if I could rule the world I would suggest: a. more live bonus tracks; b. a live version of 'Zozobra' with the wah solo; c. a whole live CD with accompanying beautifully packaged DVD instead. And maybe with the world as an added extra....
